The practice

We believe the best heritage advice is clear enough to guide a project, not simply describe its constraints.

Orton Heritage is an independent heritage consultancy based in Brisbane and working across Queensland and Northern New South Wales. We support clients with heritage assessment, Heritage Impact Statements, conservation planning, design advice and documentation for places ranging from individual houses and character precincts to larger institutional and State heritage sites.

Our work is grounded in an architectural understanding of buildings and the way they change over time. We look closely at fabric, setting, use and significance, then translate that understanding into practical advice for owners, designers, planners and approval authorities.

The practice is led by Patrick Thomas, a heritage consultant with a background in architecture. Patrick brings a collaborative approach to project teams and a particular interest in adaptive reuse, conservation, measured recording, photography and digital documentation.

We aim to make heritage requirements understandable and useful — helping clients retain what matters, make informed changes and move projects forward with confidence.
